Oscar-winning US actor Tom Hanks has arrived in Budapest for the preparations of the shooting of his new film “Inferno”, sequel to “The Da Vinci Code”. The shooting of the movie began in mid-May.
Although Budapest will not be featured as a location in the film, the third episode will partially be shot in the Hungarian capital. The two-times Oscar-winning Hollywood movie star will play Harvard symbol researcher Robert Langdon, who will be on a quest to save the world from a mad scientist, played by Ben Foster. The movie is expected to be as action-packed and exciting as its precedessors, The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. The film, directed by Ron Howard, will premier in the USA on 14 October 2016.
In January, the tabloid website Borsonline reported that the Hollywood movie star will be moving to Budapest for the period of shooting. Plans are to hold fifty shooting days both in studio and open-air settings, with scenes expected to be played out in the surroundings of the Opera. The team will also visit other cities while working on the film, including Istanbul and Florence, but for a combined period of only ten days, far less than the time spent in Budapest.
Our Vasarely Museum is in the Top10 on The Guardian's list!
"Full of paintings you really can just stare at, the Vasarely Múzeum is one of the key collections from the leader of the op-art movement. In a peaceful part of the city, on the bank of the Danube, the museum has over 400 of Victor Vasarely’s works, and also hosts contemporary art exhibitions. After a day sweating in the city’s baths, go for a wander around this quiet museum, watching the multicoloured lines, squares and waves morph and breath when you gaze at them. Fun and soothing stuff."

In a recently published clip, they recall their experiences of shooting in Budapest, and their opinions could not be more positive.
The actress said that she has never seen as extraordinary places as the system of cellars lying beneath Buda Castle or the Kelenföld thermal power station, but also praised the vintage buildings of downtown Budapest. As the film’s director Mr. Feig explains, the script was adapted to feature Budapest as the story’s location instead of Paris and Rome after he fell in love with the Hungarian capital.
Margaret Island, in the middle of the Danube in central Budapest, spends winter shrouded in mist; come summer the island is an oasis in the midst the city.
Encircled by a 5km asphalt running track and jetties from which to launch small boats (and bodies – some of the swimmers here are hardy folk), the illusion of an island holiday is enhanced by two thermal spa complexes.

Watch as the creme of the Hungarian higher education and two top universities from the US match up against each other in an epic water battle on the Danube, join the tens of thousands of fans cheering for their favourite teams and take part in dozens of sports and music-related programmes, awaiting you at the Danube Regatta on 25 April.
Hungary’s biggest sports festival was called to life with the intention of promoting the sporty lifestyle among the youths and to call attention to the many ways the Danube can be used. For the time of the programmes traffic on the river will be stopped.
This is going to be the third time that rowers and dragon boats will swarm the most picturesque section of the Danube: professional and amateur teams will race off against others and the champions of last year’s Regatta, between the Parliament building and the main building of Budapest University of Technology.
Participating in the Regatta will be the sports teams of Andrássy Gyula Budapesti Német Nyelvű Egyetem (AUB), the Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem (BCE), the Budapesti Gazdasági Főiskola (BGF), the Budapesti Műszaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetem (BME), the Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem (ELTE), the Nemzeti Közszolgálati Egyetem (NKE), the Pázmány Péter Katolikus Egyetem (PPKE), the Semmelweis Egyetem (SE), the Testnevelési Egyetem (TF), the Pécsi Tudományegyetem (PTE), the Széchenyi István Egyetem (SZE) and the Szegedi Tudományegyetem (SZTE) with two American universities making an appearance, the eternal rival teams of Harvard and Princeton University. A huge showdown is guaranteed!
Some exciting stuff will be happening on the car-free riverbank as well! You can play streetball, practise your badminton and table tennis skills, or take part in a calming yoga session. If you’re into extreme sports, then try yourself out in slacklining, gauswheeling or put your freestyle frisbee skills to test. Beerpong, Xbox consoles, a climbing wall and table football machines will also be present. If you’d rather just sit back and watch, then the breath-taking show of Gravity Academy, a team of professional teenage acrobats, will surely make you gape in awe.
Of course Dunai Regatta will put a strong emphasis on musical programmes as well: listen to Intim Torna Illegál, the finalists of the Sound of the University sing-off contest, to Drop the Cheese and dance yourself clean to the beats of DJ Whiteboy. Those who do not want to do anything sport-related and are tired of partying, can get massages, take a chill-pill in the nice lounge section or watch a film in the outdoor cinema!
